Revamp Time

Once again, I've neglected my poor little blog. I just can't seem to keep up. At all! Sooooo, I've decided that maybe what it needs is a revamp. New background, new title, new everything. I managed to get the background changed and I'm working on the title (definitely needs to be changed). Any ideas? I'm stumped!

But, in the midst of all of this change a friend (thanks Kimmie!) reminded me to post my project for the Moxie Fab Blog Decor To Make the Season Bright challenge. I just completed this for a DT assignment for RSC E-zine. I used the Cosmo Cricket Mitten Weather mini-deck to complete this altered project. I've had these wooden Christmas trees from Trio by Plaid for years. I finally came across this bin while cleaning out the other day and decided to pull this for a future project. Little did I know I'd be using it so soon.

I love the variety and I'm taking the time to back and look at previous sketches. Maybe I'll get more than one done per week. Anyway, here's my LO for this week's sketch. Thanks again for great inspiration.

Since it's snowing outside and now they are predicting even more snow that originally thought (6-10 inches) looks like I might be able to get quite a bit done today.

Well, it's been almost forever since my last post. Sometimes I get on a roll and I'm on here all the times and then I let it get away and as you can see it's been since the spring that I've posted. BoBunny has a great challenge right now. Make a card using the sketch on their blog for a chance to win some of their Tis The Season collection. Here's what I managed to come up with:

The cardstock is Bazzill, all patterned paper is BoBunny along with the wreath tag. Letters are from Making Memories and the ribbon is Sheer Creations from Michael's. The gems are a mix of Heidi Swapp and Me and My Big Ideas. The rub-on is unknown.

Did You Ever??

Did you? Did you ever have one of those weeks when you just didn't feel like doing a darn thing? Well, that's been my week. We had friends from out of town over Memorial Day Weekend - which was a blast by the way!! It is our tradition every year. Our friends come down from Jersey and then we invite more people over on Sunday for a big BBQ. This year was no different and the time flew by so fast. I won't get into the nitty gritty, but I can remember a time when we'd be up sitting on the back deck until 1 or 2 in the morning. We're getting old is all I'm willing to say!

Here's a LO I did commemorating our last Memorial Day weekend together.

But, I've gotten away from my week. I figured after everyone went home on Monday that I'd take it easy for the day. Right??? WRONG!!!

My mom called and reminded me that the rockers she and my dad were getting rid of were waiting for us at her house and would we mind picking them up. Today, if possible. Sure, no problem. But DH decided that he wanted the room we were going to put them in ready for it. Our bedroom. Well, that meant that sleeper chair we were taking out of our bedroom to put in the old nursery had to be moved first. Which also meant that the old nursery had to be cleaned. It had become our room for storing what we didn't know what to do with. So I spent my Monday morning and early afternoon cleaning out that room. What a chore! But it got done. Mind you, I was going to relax for the ENTIRE day. I thought I deserved it after the weekend.

So off we go to my mom's (she lived only 15 minutes away) and half way there it starts to pour down rain. So once we get there we have to wait about a half an hour for it to let up enough to be able to take the chairs out to the cars. Good thing I drive a mini-van. Anyway we get them moved and into the house and they look great. So does the old nursery. But to finish my story, that took all the energy I had - for the entire week!

So here I am Friday morning, realizing that the vacuuming didn't get done, along with the laundry and a few other items. And I'm supposed to be packing for my getaway crop weekend with a couple of girl friends. I'm supposed to leave this afternoon. Needless to say my ignoring the housework Tuesday through Thursday was probably not the best of plans. So today, the beds are made, the laundry is...well, being laundered. One load done and put away. More to come. I still need to vacuum, and pack for my trip. There are not enough hours in my day. Anyone want to come help???

How to Participate:

At the beginning of each week (Monday) we will post an inspiration thread with some tips, tricks and a YMBD original sketch. You will be required to take one photo a day each week (7 photos/week). You may choose to use some of the tips and tricks we've suggested and the sketch, or not (that is up to you). Either way, you must take one photo a day each week, and create a layout with your 7 photos (this will result in 92 photos over the summer and 13 layouts)

You must upload your layouts to our "92 Days of Summer" Gallery, (deadline for submissions: September 30th, 2009).

You must keep track of your progress and keep your tracking post up to date.

Rainy Days and Fridays

Well, the only good thing I can think of for today is that it's actually Friday! Woohoo! Still, I'm stuck indoors - again. We have had nothing but rain, rain, and more rain since early last week. I think today will actually be our 11th day of rain (expecting storms this afternoon). We've had over 3" of rain in a week when that's all we get in a month's time around here. My shoes are squelching, even when I walk in the house (well, not really, but you get the point.)

Want to know why I'm stuck inside again. Poor Nick. He's home from school today with a yucky cold. I had a feeling it was coming on, but I just kept thinking (hoping) that it would end up being his allergies. He's even running a bit of a fever this morning.

So I'll stay inside and catch up on laundry and whatever else I feel like doing. We were supposed to go over to my mom's for dinner, but that's off. Now I'll have to come up with something. Uggghhh!

Life With Maria

Once again, I have been so bad about blogging. Don't know why. I've actually had the time, but just not the interest. Maybe because I never think I'm any good at this or better yet - I really have no idea what to say. LOL Most of my friends would disagree because half the time they can't get me to shut up.

But DD Maria can beat me at it any time. The girl can talk. I mean really about anything, anytime. She's good at holding a conversation with herself too. I heard her talking in her room the other day (I thought with her brother) until I realized he wasn't even home. Nope, she was in just a chatting away with herself. It was cute.

She came to me yesterday and had decided to finally get her ears pierced. Mind you, we've been talking about this on an off for a couple of years. But the child is afraid of pain, needles, you name it. And of course just the thought of this sends her into a nervous frenzy. She gets stomach aches when she gets nervous. Had one last night, so I had to tell her she won't be getting her ears pierced this weekend until she's REALLY ready.

I'm still taking her, I just don't want her to be worrying about it for the rest of the week. We also got a great note from one of her teachers. And of course there was a great challenge over at Lifetime Moments this weekend for NSD. So I put them together and came up with this LO to document her teacher's kind words.

This was from her Social Studies teacher. "So often us teachers have to focus most of our attention on those students who aren't doing what they are supposed to be doing in school. I just wanted to take this time and say that having Maria in my class not only makes my job easier, but fun and rewarding. It has and is a pleasure to have her in my class. Thank you," Mr. McShane.

Your Memories By Design

I was so excited to get this package. My first kit on the YMBD 2009 Design Team. Catherine has such awesome stuff in her store and as much as I might like to, I just can't buy it all. DH would pitch a royal fit!! LOL He just doesn't seem to understand that this is truly an addiction. If he does there may be an intervention and that just won't do. But back to the kit.

Our theme, of course, was winter. Since we haven't had any snow so far I chose some really great photos from a couple of seasons ago and created a couple of LOs, cards, and a small acrylic album.

Scrapbook Playground Closing

I'm so sad. Wendi posted the following info on our forum last week:

On January 1, 2009, Scrapbook Playground will be closing the site. With the close of the store in May of 2008, it has become financially impossible to continue to run the site so the decision to close has been made. The Happy Box kit club is continuing and announcements in regards to the kits will be made on the Scrapbook Playground blog. Thank you for the wonderful years of fun - the Playground will be missed.

Wendi was the first to give me an opportunity on a Design Team! I feel like Playground was my family and I'm sure going to miss all of the fun we had. If you were part of our family come on by and say good-bye to Wendi and the rest of the ladies. I'll miss the Playground Wendi and thanks for all you did for me.

Buttons Galore

Use Your Stash Blog's challenge this month is Buttons! I found this really great, inexpensive Barn Star at Michael's. I used Basic Grey's Figgy Pudding line and lots of buttons to jazz it up a bit.

We want to see 8.5x11 or 12x12 layouts that use lots of buttons!!!! Be creative and show them off! We'd like all work to be new - the idea is to USE your stash by making NEW pages!

The deadline is November 20th, winner announced on the 25th. Voting will be done by poll - after the dt has narrowed it down to 2 layouts.

So You Think You Can Scrap?

Well at least this week I can! I made it to the next round of the So You Think You Can Scrap contest over at Your Memories By Design. I thought this week was hard, but next week's challenge is challenging! LOL You have to mat your photos with non-traditional shapes (no squares, ovals, circles, diamonds, etc.).

Here's the LO I created for last week's challenge: base your LO on your favorite ice cream flavor - mine was Moose Tracks. You're allowed other color, it just can't be predominant on your LO.

"So You Think You Can Scrap" (SYTYCS) is a 6 round contest/competition that is open to all forum members (worldwide) to join. Each round is a different challenge which you must complete, and at the end of each round, the entries are voted on (anonymously) by the public. That's what I did this past weekend. YMBD had a super fun on-line crop this past weekend. I managed to get a lot accomplished with their pre-crop challenges, games and a ton of fun challenges. I finished up my DT work early for Scrapbook Playground so I had plenty of time to play and the deadline for uploading entries was not until Tuesday. I ended up getting 12 LOs, 1 mini-album, and 9 cards done. I think that's the most I've ever done at one time.

The kids are back in school, but the pool is still open and the weather is still warm, so as far as I'm concerned Fall can just wait a while. I'm so not ready. Our summer was jam packed with activities and here are just a few:

My Favorite Things

This week since we've been back from vacation has flown by. I haven't even had a chance to post some of our vacation pics yet. But I promise I will.

I totally adore the little beach set and actually printed some pics from our vacation for this LO. Nick loves to boogie board. Our vacation has come. We left at o'dark early Saturday morning and made great time to NC. Only 5 hours with a gratuitous stop at Starbucks. I'm not sure who was more excited by this stop - me or the kids. If DH didn't have to stop he wouldn't. He orders regular coffee at Starbucks. Maria loves her iced vanilla latte and Nick is my hot chocolate boy - no matter what time of the year it is. I have to have my Chai latte.

We spent some great time on the beach until we could get into the house. Yesterday was a gorgeous day right up until the thunderstorm hit, but by then we had headed off the beach, taken a dip in the pool and were inside cleaning up and getting ready to have some lunch.

We spent time last night watching the Olympics. How about Men's swimming relay team? Was that not spectacular?! We loved that finish. We watched a bit of the women's gymnastics heats. I'm always amazed at the routines on the balance beam - 4 inches - can you imagine the concentration they need for that.

DH is golfing this morning, so me and the kids will head out to do a little shopping and then hit the beach this afternoon. Hope you all have a terrific day.

Kimmie and Corey are keeping me on my toes and keeping my blog updated for sure. I wonder if this was Kimmie's intent all along. She's always after me to update my blog. Well, here ya go sweetie - two in one day!

I had to do another challenge to use the scraps from my LO to make a card. Since I used no PP I really had no scraps, so I kept with the same theme and just made a cute summer birthday card using the same supplies (SU Stipple Shells Stamp Set, Stickles, SU Ink and pop dots, but I did use leftover CS scraps - yay me!) Hope you like it.

Use Your Stash Challenge - Using Stamps

I finally got my LO done and I'm not sure if I like it or not. It's very simple for me, not my usual thing so it sort of looks unfinished to me, but I decided I'm not going to mess with it anymore. I used the Stampin' Up set Stipple Shells. I drew a circle with a paper plate on a piece of white cardstock and then started stamping the shells around the circle. I erased the pencil line and then stamped some extra shells on a separate paper and cut them out. I then used pop dots to give the LO a little depth and added some stickles for sparkle. I also used a Sakura gel pen to add some stitching around the outside and a couple of Prima and American Craft flowers attached using brads. The stickers are from Mary Engelbreit.

I can hardly believe that it is July 1st already. Didn't school just let out? I feel like summer is flying by and I still have so much to look forward to. A trip with DH and a family trip to the outer banks. Plus tons of other little goodies we have planned.

I can finally talk about this. I've been busting at the seams for so long now and it feels good to be able to tell everyone that I was picked to be on the Creative Team at Crop Addict. Woohoo! This is a really fun site and I'm so looking forward to working with this bunch of super talented ladies. One of the best part is I'll be working together again with my buddy from a previous DT gig - NicPea! Hi Nicole! Together again!

I'm even lucky enough to have a LO that Nic designed for a picture of my DS. If I get a few moments tomorrow I'll scan it in and post it here. She's one terrific designer.

GASC Chantilly

Well, our fun weekend has come and gone and I feel like I'm finally rested again. Too many late nights, but it was definitely worth it. Sue, Nancy and I had a blast. The only problem was that it went by on so fast. Why is that? It seems like it takes forever for the event to finally arrive, only to fly by at mach speed. LOL

I only took 3 classes this year and my favorite by far was the Acrylic Album I took from the Button Farm. This is the first time I worked with an acrylic album and I learned a lot, so I'll be able to do one of my own design without a lot of trial and error. I haven't added my photos yet and some of the embellishments, but I hope to finish it this weekend. Here's what it looks like so far:

I also took a Rusty Pickle class to make a Love Mini-Album. It too is not finished yet, just not enough class time. I don't think some of the ladies realized that the class was a little more advanced than they were used to because the poor instructor kept having to stop and make a boatload of explanations. The other class I took was an Accordion Mini-Album. The instructor was Crystal Jeffrey Rieger (she's really funny). The sponsor's for that class were Memory Makers, TI and Scrapbook Adhesives (3L).

Graduation Day

Well, it finally happened. It's actually been happening all along, but I guess I just refused to admit it. My daughter is actually growing up. Right before my eyes. And let me tell you, I'm not exactly happy about it. Nope, not at all! LOL

I was thinking about it yesterday and it hit me that she'll no longer be in elementary school and that she's moving on up into middle school. I burst into tears. I'm a total mess. I figured if I was crying yesterday, how in the world was I going to make it through today. I did tear up once, but managed to keep it under control. It's a good thing my mom wasn't there or I really would have broken down.

I know I'm biased, but I have to say she looked absolutely beautiful and totally happy. She's so excited about going to middle school (and a little nervous too). In August she'll get a chance to check out her new locker, get her schedule of classes, and meet her new teachers. She wants to continue with chorus and join the theater group. All from a child who used to be afraid of getting up in front of anybody for anything. LOL

I had a great time trying to mix and match my photos and then come up with some interesting ways to add some more texture to the pages. I did a lot of stamping. I like them all, but I think the LO I love the most is "The Sea." It's a great pic of DS and his cousin staring out at the ocean and holding hands. Don't you wish you could keep them little forever.

Somebody quick, take my temperature. I'm so awful at keeping up with this blogging thing, but my friend Kimmie is good a pushing me in the right direction. Keep at it Kimmie - one day I might actually keep it going on my own.

Ki Memories - Summer Blog Challenge

I love Ki products - especially their letters. Such a cool funky shape. Can't get enough of them. Traci Miller has posted a challenge on their blog to do a LO for summer - either what you're going to do this year, or if you're really behind like me, then a LO from previous summer activities.

My kids love to boogie board and I take tons of photos always hoping to capture that perfect moment. Our trip to Top Sail, NC provided some of the best "surfing" waves for the kids to enjoy. Once they got in the water, it was nearly impossible to get them back out. They had a blast and they're already looking forward to their next beach vacation this year when we head to Nags Head, NC. I'll have my camera ready!

Simply Cardstock

Scrapbook Playground's April sponsor was Simply Cardstock. I must admit, I thought it would be a breeze coming up with ideas for LOs. But then when I actually got to it, my mind went totally blank. I never realized how much I rely on patterned paper to get a LO going. So this time I had to dig out my stamps, ink, and decorative scissors. Once I got started I really loved how my LOs turned out, but I must admit I really had to practice with the stamps and ink beforehand. I was definitely rusty making backgrounds. I really loved using the Stampin' Up rollers I had on three of my LOs (spring, birthday and museum). For the Christmas Choo Choo I dug out some really old stash - A Creative Memories train die cut and then I just jazzed it up a bit by adding some black CS pieces. I also knew I had a train track die cut somewhere and I looked high and low for it, but never did find it. So I had to resort to making my own. I think it turned out wonderfully.

I also did another LO for an album I'm starting for my Mom. I included photos from when she was a teen and early 20's. I saw the idea on a Stampin' Up calender and knew it would be perfect for what I was trying to showcase. I hope she likes it. I used some Rhonna Farrer stamps and a white craft ink to create my background. And since my sewing machine isn't working I hand-stitched all of the edges. That was a lot of work, but well worth the final look.

I hate having to pack up constantly. I did manage to get 9 LOs done and one mini-album, plus a lot of shopping. I didn't take any classes, but wish I had now. There was one in particular where they made an adorable mini-album. Wish I had remembered to take a pic, I want to try and re-create it. I really loved their format. Only two croppers per table so you had a ton of space and you weren't cramped in. Looking forward to next year already!

Well, let me tell you, that when I first pulled these little gems out of the box I had no clue what to do with them. I was definitely scared. It's not like messing up a LO that you can pretty much fix. If I messed with these, I may not get a second chance. But once I warmed up to the task they were actually a ton of fun to work with. I loved using the Stickles on them. I'll also want to purchase more colors of Staz-On Ink pads. So easy and no mess. I even went out and bought some of Ranger's alcohol inks. I'd never used them before and was definitely a little tentative about trying them, but I'll definitely be adding them to my list of scrap items to accumulate. Here's what I created for the 5th. Back to School - At Last

The kids were less than enthused about starting school this year. Not that they are ever jumping for joy over the prospect of a new school year, but this year was different. They were attending a new school in the public school system. They'd been going to a Catholic school previously, so this was a whole new ballgame for them. New friends, new everything. Nick has a friend in our development that used to go to his old school and is now at his new school. So he at least had a friend in the school even though they weren't in the same classroom. Poor Maria was really nervous. The best part of the day for her was the fact that she no longer had to wear a uniform and could wear "cool clothes." LOL

I loved the day on several levels. Aaaahhhhh, kids back in school, but really, the best part was sleeping in on that morning. The school day starts an hour later, plus they ride the bus and I no longer have to car pool. What's a mom to do with all that extra time? Hit the MBs of course!!

Nick was really not interested in getting his picture taken and most of the ones I took of him are either of his back or he has his eyes closed. At least Maria was willing. So this year I have a new 3rd grader and a new 5th grader. I hope and pray the school year goes well for them.

Congrats to Elizabeth this week - I love her LO. Now, it's our job to "lift" it. So here is my take on Elizabeth's LO.

Prima Features

I can't keep up! Summer is always so busy for us and this year is no different. It's been an entire month since I posted and I feel like I'm barely squeezing this one in. We're taking two vacations this month. One to the shore that we've already been on and next week we head to Cancun, Mexico.

Our sponsor this month is Prima! I just adore their product - especially those wonderful flowers! So far, I've altered a lunch box for my July Journal. I'm trying to keep the pages along the same theme so I've been using my extra scraps for them. However, I am behind in getting the pages done, but I am keeping up with my journaling.

I finished my last two assignments for the 25th - a mini-book and a LO about me (which I think turned out really great).

Today was Maria's day. She had her final gymnastics class which meant achievement trophy time. They showed off all they had learned during the year. I was amazed at how much she had advanced. She was really excited because it was her first trophy.

They did all sorts of gymnastics. Handstands, bridges, wall sits. Their routines were cartwheels, round offs, skaters, forward rolls, and cheese splats (I think they liked this part the best). She definitely wants to do this again next year and is even considering getting back into dance. YAY!

Today was a busy one. The boys went to church early this morning. Maria and I attended Mass yesterday - she had to altar serve. We had omelettes and bacon for breakfast - yummy! I checked out the message boards and finished my 2nd DT assignment for Little Scrapbox.
Nick's soccer banquet was today. He was really excited. His team was undefeated this year and he got this humongous trophy. It now sits on his shelf and barely clears the ceiling. His team was the only undefeated team at the school (1st and 2nd graders). I had to make a side dish for the event (mac 'n cheese). We also had to go early to help set up, but by the time we got there they were done. So the kids headed outside and played soccer together or hung out on the playground.

Afterwards we headed home for a quick change of clothes and went out to dinner for some great seafood. It was a surprise birthday party for my friend Jen. It was great, she had no idea at all. Her son plays soccer with ours, so we had to keep it a secret from the kids - I just knew they'd blab it to her boys and then she'd find out.

It's Official

Yesterday was the last day of school. I'm not sure who was more excited - me or the kids. Now no more having to get up early (their school day starts at 8:00), I can sleep in. Well, usually. This morning Nick decided to wake me up at 5:10 to let me know he lost his tooth. He was so excited I didn't want to give him a hard time for waking me up so early. Maria and Tom are still sleeping - wish I was. But this gives me a little time to catch up on my blog.

I've done some serious scrapping lately. Still trying to keep up with my June 30 Day challenge from Kristi. I'm a little behind and have 4 pages to do. I'll knock them out today. My DT assignment at Scrapbox is complete and I'll upload it on Sunday. Black & White photo - wedding theme. I really love the way it turned out.

Finished my lift of our Playpal at Playground which won't be posted until the 25th, but at least it's done. Here's another lift I did at Scrapbox. It's for my good friend Kelly (H20SkiGal). Her work is fabulous. I loved her LO so much that I practically copied the whole LO. Only a few minor changes. Thanks Kelly for some great inspiration. Last Week of School

Spent yesterday just goofing off and doing some light cleaning. We attended our school's 8th grade graduation ceremony. One of my good friend's daughter was graduating. It was great because she got some awards she didn't know about (Presidential Award, a Citizenship Award from the Knights of Columbus). The look on her face was priceless.

Today the kids start their last week of school. It should be a fun week with field day and at least one field trip for Maria. I'm trying to get caught up on my June 30-day mini-album challenge. The first two pages are done and today I'll work on yesterday's page. I still need to do a cover, but haven't been able to come up with a unique enough title! Anyone have any suggestions???

I have plenty of errands to run, so I'd better get started. I need to go pick up some negatives I had turned into digital CDs. I have two DT assignments due this month at Little Scrapbox using wedding photos in black and white. Needless to say after 11 years, my wedding album is complete. The good part is I ran across some other negatives of the kids when they were little and now I'll be able to manipulate them on the computer.

My DT assignment at Playground is Sugarloaf stamps. Anxiously awaiting my package, which will also include Prima stuff for next month. Yahoo! I *heart* Prima!

I actually got a LO done today. Amazing! I used Karen Foster's Pirate Line and a Sketch from PencilLines from Nicole White. Thanks Nicole for the inspiration.

He really didn't want to pose, but I begged and he caved. I'll take Nick over Johnny Depp any day. LOL

Gone Hiking

The household was up early this morning. The boys (Tom and Nick) are off on a hiking expedition. I gave them the back-up digital camera. Hope they get some good shots.

So, today is a girls day. Maria was up really early, before 6. How come I can't get them up that early on a school day??? I think she was just as excited about getting her day started as the guys were. However, getting up early caught up with her. She's now back in bed soundly asleep. We'll do a little shopping, probably have lunch out and then spend the afternoon scrapping. I'm hoping to get quite a few projects done.

That Magical Day

Yup, it's today. There's something about June 1st that just screams vacation to me. Even though the family has traditionally stated that Memorial Day Weekend is the beginning of summer. That first day in June says, stop what you're doing and relax.

The kids are in countdown mode. And now I've joined them. Not counting today, 5 more days of school left. They'll chant it in the car all the way to school. LOL The best part, today is only a half day.

Maria is not thrilled about school today. She has 3 tests to take. She had 2 yesterday. I tried to explain that it will soon be over, but it was no consolation.
